Lorraine and I were having an IM conversation last night about all sorts of random stuff. Her comment was, “I’ve been flapping my wings, but strangely, I haven’t been able to get off the ground yet.” To which I replied, “Funny. Your wings are out of synch.”
At that moment it occurred to me just how telling, about both of our lives (in different ways), that analogy truly is.

I haven’t posted any quotes lately. Tonight seems like a good night for quotes. I want to post something but since I have some pretty nasty sun poisoning and blisters thanks to my miserable week in the sun (and, yes, I even wore SPF 70 sunblock), I haven’t a whole lot of faith in my ability to be very original. Therefore, quoting others seems more logical.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Do not spoil what you have by desiring which you have not; but remember that what you have now was once among the things you only hoped for.” ~ Epicurus
“I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn’t learn something from him.” ~ Galileo Galilei
“To insult someone we call him “bestial.” For deliberate cruelty and nature, “human” might be the greater insult.”
~ Isaac Asimov
“If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.” ~ Katherine Hepburn

There are lots of solar cookers that you can build from simple plans available all over the Internet. There are also plenty that you can purchase. The one below (in the CNN video) might just be one of the most interesting I’ve seen.

I posted a brief update on the gardening page. I will also be adding a page within the next few days to show off some pictures of the Chicken Little Family. The Chicken Little’s are our small flock of bantam hens (4 golden phoenix and one adorable old English) and our one little cocky bantam rooster (a silver duckwing). They are all doing quite nicely. My latest plans involve adding some honey bees to the mix. But, I am going to house their hive at my parent’s farm (it’s less than a 1/4 mile away). I have two kids with severe insect sting allergies. So, even though I am not allergic, I have no intention of putting the kids at risk with an active hive anywhere close to where they might want to play. Luckily, my Dad is being more than generous and will allow me to have it at the farm.

I think at this point in the process, Tony was laughing mightily after just managing to get his big sister soaked with the watering can…
