Check out my new logo! Is my fabulous husband not the most talented person you have ever met? And, my bus is getting painted EXACTLY like my logo. How great is that?
Thanks again, Babe, for all of your hard work on making my logo exactly what I wanted.

The Compact has made the NY Times! Better yet, I am quoted several times. LOL!
Since 5 a.m., I have approved about 200 new Compact memberships! I’m likely the first moderator up on a Saturday morning since I think everyone else is on the West Coast. It is absolutely thrilling to read in the membership requests about everyone who wants to change their consumer habits and join the group.

This time I am not ranting about our elected officials here in South Carolina… Nope… This is about REAL chickens.
PETA has outted the monks at Mepkin Abbey (here in SC) for their mistreatment of the chickens that they use for egg sales. The video on PETA’s site, as well as the monk’s own words, speak for themselves. I don’t always agree with everything PETA does or says. But, in this case, it appears there is cause for concern.

I received the following e-mail today. Everyone should be aware of what is happening around them….
I do not support Roe versus Wade.
It should be overturned…
- John McCain, USA Today, February 19, 2007
McCain on choice:
I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned… USA Today, February 19, 2007.
Dear Marlaina,
You may think it’s too early for most Americans to think about Election 2008, but here we are: at a conservative rally this weekend, Arizona Senator John McCain proclaimed, “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned…” [USA Today, February 19, 2007]. He proceeded to an abstinence-only event later that day.
You can’t get any clearer than that.
Yet, in a recent poll by Fox News/Opinion Dynamics, 52% of people surveyed did not know McCain’s position on choice although he has a consistently anti-choice record. Even worse, 12% thought he was pro-choice!
Want to make sure Americans know where presidential candidates stand on choice, including McCain? Simply click here. Then forward this to as many people as you can.
Rest assured, NARAL Pro-Choice America continues to research each candidate’s position and record on choice. As the political arm of the pro-choice movement, it is NARAL Pro-Choice America’s job to make sure the public knows where each candidate stands on a woman’s right to choose. And with your help, we’ll make sure Senator McCain’s statement does not fly under the radar.
So we are asking you to do two things today:
1. First, I want you to support our work to protect Roe v. Wade, including electing a pro-choice president and other pro-choice candidates in 2008.
2. I also am asking you to forward this to as many friends as you can to help inform people about candidate McCain’s position. Click here to send an email to your list or just forward the message below. Every voting American should know where each candidate stands on this critical issue and others.
With your help today, we can ensure that politicians stay out of American women’s most personal, private decisions. So, please make your answer to the question “Who Decides?” heard across America by giving to NARAL Pro-Choice America today and forwarding this message to as many people as possible letting them know candidate McCain’s position, “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned…” [USA Today, February 19, 2007].
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nancy Keenan,
President

We should all be ashamed of ourselves. Our CHILDREN are going off to fight the war conjured up by rich old white men and then we treat them like crap when they come home. How VERY sad….

Update: 2-21-07
The Washington Post now reports that since their series of articles aired that the Army has begun a huge clean-up of the facilities. BRAVO!

Seriously…. This is disturbing. Everyone has been told for years about the harmful effects that lead can have on our children. Part of typical pediatric exams now involves lead testing if you live in a home over 25 years old…. Yet, our dumbass government still insists on bowing to big business and allowing them to produce things with the potential of harm.

Anton and I didn’t buy each other chocolates or even cards this year for Valentine’s Day. Of course, it just so happens that we’re extremely broke this week. Such is the life of owning your own business and waiting for clients to pay you. With us it seems to be either feast or famine. But, since starting The Compact, I find that we aren’t as upset during those times of famine. Neither of us thought about running out and buying each other a gift for the consumer holiday of February. I was never big on cut flowers anyway. It always seemed so wasteful to have something that was going to die after a week. I’m allergic to chocolate. And, honestly, I don’t really want or need anything. Anton and I shared coffee and conversation while Tony was having Occupational Therapy yesterday. And, he told me he loves me. I told him I love him. That was more than enough for both of us. Next week the flowers will be dead, chocolates will have been eaten, and cards will have been tossed by most. All that will remain is the memory of yet another consumer driven holiday where the true sentiments have been forgotten.

So…. I have been officially banned from the Full Moon Bus Club…. LOL! I went to sleep in the USA but I must have woken up in a country where not only are women not allowed representation, but there are also no rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Stopping personal attacks on a public forum is one thing… outright censorship and totalitarian actions on the part of the “rulers” are another.
My banning is all apparently because I created the post that I speak about below on charity. They saw this as the “final straw” as one moderator says.
Funny…. You make people re-think what they are and aren’t doing in their lives and they get offended. Sad, actually. I was QUITE nice. I got complimented on starting such a thought provoking thread many times. Heck…. I didn’t even say anything controversial (as you can see below in the thread titled “Philanthropy”).
It’s OK though. I certainly have much better groups to focus my time on. I want to make a difference- not just talk about it.

Sure, it only gets an average of 24 MPG (pretty good for a ‘69 model and still much better than many new super-sized SUV’s). And I only drive it occasionally. But, I love my bus. Even after all of the grief it has caused. Even after all of the nastiness caused by members of the Full Moon Bus Club. I still love my bus. IMMENSELY. It is ME and it has it’s forever home. To the left is a pic of me embellishing Konrad with some of his artwork last summer.
